Herbs are a fantastic way to create a fragrant and useful outdoor space that provides the freshest of seasonings for our foods. They have been used for centuries to add flavor to meats, veggies and eggs as well as use as an antiseptic, breath and air freshener.Not only do herbs bring the fragrances of peppermint, lemon, orange, lavender and even chocolate into the garden landscape an “herber” is one of the easiest and most satisfying of all jardins to grow.

Begun in medieval Europe, the earliest plans for an “herber” were discovered in a 9^th century Benedictine monastery. The classic and formal style of herb garden, called the knot garden was designed to bring decorative form to these functional plants. Elaborate and ambitious by all growing standards, knot gardens were often referred to as "pleasure jardin".
